Happy International Women’s Day! Established in 1911, the annual event falls on March 8 with the goal of celebrating our fellow citizens, standing up for equal rights and honoring the female powers that have come before us. There’s no better time to support your sisters than now and if you’re looking for your next purchase, look no further than brands founded by women.

Now that you know the best women-owned fashion brands, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite beauty brands created by women below.

Emma Lewisham

Founded in her native New Zealand, Emma Lewisham has become a cult following since launching the eponymous brand in 2019 with luxurious skincare and circular, long-lasting beauty. Additionally, the brand supports Zonta International and the Malala Foundation who work to break down barriers and empower women around the world.

Vida Glow

Vida Glow is a leading brand in ingestible beauty and, more recently, skincare. Since its creation by Anna Lahey in 2014, the brand has become a company 92% run by women. On International Women’s Day, the beauty giant has pledged to donate 100% of online profits to the Australian Red Cross and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Espresso

Italian-born beauty brand Espressoh has been catapulted to TikTok cult status thanks to its groundbreaking dewy formulas. The woman behind the company is Chiara Cascella, who established the brand in 2018 with the aim of conceptualizing simple products to enhance natural beauty – regardless of gender, skin tone or skin texture.

The Mav

Mav Organic Skin Science was created by Dr. Tarj Mavi who, after suffering from skin pigmentation with the birth of her second child, struggled to find products that did not contain harsh chemicals. So she created her own, using 25 years of experience in product development and research. The brand has since branched out into body tools and ingestible beauty.

Leisure Beauty

Recreation Beauty is a clean beauty company specializing in luxury fragrances and oils based in Bondi Beach, Australia. The brand was founded by the magazine’s former editor, Nedahl Stelio, who channeled her organic lifestyle into ethically sourced, vegan and cruelty-free products.

Yeah

Ouai is the brainchild of celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin who says she started the business after struggling to find a brand that she and her friends could “identify with”. On International Women’s Day, Ouai announced that she would mark the day as a public holiday while supporting organizations such as Women for Women and Planned Parenthood.

Greenhouse perfumes

Chances are you have a Glasshouse Fragrance candle nearby or maybe it is currently burning. 15 years ago, Nicole Eckles set her sights on creating an internationally renowned perfume brand. Today, as the founder and CEO of Glasshouse Fragrances, she is not only recognized, but also a leader in the industry.

Pat McGrath Laboratories

You might recognize Pat McGrath as the mastermind behind a myriad of beauty looks and fashion week editorials around the world. Using her expertise as one of the world’s most sought after makeup artists, she developed her eponymous brand, Pat McGrath Labs in 2015. Many of her products are still selling out in record time.

Kopari Beauty

Kopari Beauty, which has now launched at Sephora Australia, has quickly become a coveted staple in bathroom vanities and showers. Founders Kiana Cabell and Gigi Goldman started the brand in 2015 with the hopes of using the powerful effects of premium coconut oil in our daily beauty routines.
