“Chanel and Dior are doing very well and Sauvage maintains its position as the preferred brand purchased by Fragrance Shop customers during the holidays,” The Fragrance Shop said.
Meanwhile, sales for the full year to March 2019 rose 2.6% to £124.7m, although underlying pre-tax profits fell 5.5% to 15 £.5 million over the previous year.
The Fragrance Shop said it was a “solid performance in the face of kamikaze discounts at struggling retailers which made the market fiercely competitive, driving up labor costs and driving up prices”.
The collapse of House of Fraser last year took its toll on The Fragrance Shop, which saw its concessions close after Sports Direct acquired the department store chain from Mike Ashley.
However, The Fragrance Shop managing director Sanjay Vadera said the retailer had not closed any stores in the past year.
“We have opened 15 stores in the last 18 months because it is clear that the winners in retail will be those who successfully integrate their digital and physical businesses to cater to a customer who wants to choose and mix the two” , Vadera said.
