Sanjay Vadera, CEO of The Fragrance Shop, awarded MBE and Joules Founder Tom Joule, awarded OBE in Jubilee Honors – Retail Times

Sanjay Vadera, CEO of The Fragrance Shop and Chairman of Per-Scent, received an MBE in Queen’s Jubilee Honours.

Sanjay Vadera said: “I am very proud to have received this honour, especially in the year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It’s a reflection of all the hard work that my family and all the colleagues we work with have put into the business over the years.

“It is very satisfying to know that we have made a valuable contribution to the economy and I am also very proud that we have been able to share this success and support wonderful children’s charities such as Rays of Sunshine through our Spray a Little Happiness Foundation.

Sanjay established Per-Scent in 1990 and in 2006 bought The Fragrance Shop, both based in Manchester.

The Fragrance Shop now has 218 stores and an online shopping channel showcasing the best-known brands in the industry. Its annual turnover is £180 million and it employs 1,400 people.

Per-Scent Ltd employs 90 people, increasing to 140 during peak season, serving retailers, distributors and wholesalers in the UK, Europe, USA, Asia, Australia and South Africa, with exports of around £25 million a year.

While many retailers are still recovering from two years of the pandemic, Sanjay’s business has gone from strength to strength.

Along with his commitment to business growth, Sanjay is committed to sharing their success by giving something back.

The Fragrance Shop has raised over £1.6million for children’s charities through its Spray a Little Happiness Foundation.

He supports local and national children’s charities, including a long-standing partnership with Rays of Sunshine that brightens the lives of children with serious or life-threatening illnesses.

Among the many fundraising events and campaigns, he hosted a two-week “happiness takeover” in stores in 2021 in partnership with Rays of Sunshine.

Events included the transformation of her Westfield White City store into “The Happiness Shop” and a visit from singer Pixie Lott to surprise the Rays of Sunshine Wish Choir.

During the year, The Fragrance Shop also raised £3,000 for the Mermaids charity, supporting transgender and gender diverse children.

In 2012, The Fragrance Shop was the first health and beauty retailer to partner with Pennies, offering customers the option to add a donation to their in-store card purchase, matched by a contribution from the ‘company.

In the summer of 2022, The Fragrance Shop will move from its current headquarters in Acheson Way, Manchester, to a new central office and bespoke distribution center at Metro 190 in Trafford Park, Manchester.

Covering more than 190,000 square feet, the new site is five times larger than its existing premises and includes state-of-the-art warehouses and offices. The program was developed by Legal & General’s Industrial Property Investment Fund (IPIF) and logistics and industrial property promoter PLP.

Joule: OBE for business services

British lifestyle brand Joules is very pleased to announce that Tom Joule, the group’s founder and non-executive director, has been awarded an OBE for his services to business in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Honors List, which has was announced today, 2n/a June 2022.

Tom Joule founded Joules in 1989 in the fields of Britain when he started selling clothes from a stand at a country show in Leicestershire. The business has since grown into a multi-channel lifestyle brand generating annual sales of nearly £200m, with over 140 stores across the UK and a total active customer base of over 1.9m. .

Joules employs over 1,700 people and is the largest employer in its home town of Market Harborough, Leicestershire, where the business has operated since day one.
